RARE FIRST EDITION OF DAVIS’ INAUGURAL ADDRESS, printed in Montgomery before the Confederate capital was moved to Richmond. In his address, Davis officially announces the withdrawal of the seven slave states (soon to be 11 states which would form the Confederacy) from the Union and declares himself as a new head of state within America.
