[TILDEN, Samuel J. (1814-1886) and HENDRICKS, Thomas A. (1818-1895), association]. Daily Albany Democrat. Vol. 2, No. 278. Albany, OR, November 3, 1876. Four folio pages on one large folio sheet. Each page approximately 545 x 355 mm. Toned, worn with marginal chips and tears, one horizontal crease, some portions of newspaper are faded, inkstamp and pencil signature on p. 1 near top. On p. 1 is a striking engraved illustration of jugate of Tilden and Hendricks. This newspaper has a ringing endorsement of the Democratic Presidential ticket (“The Democratic Centennial Candidates, Sam’l J. Tilden and Thos. A. Hendricks / For Congressman, Lafayette Lane.”). This election would become one of the most contentious in American history, eventually resulting in the presidency of the Republican candidate Rutherford B. Hayes (1822-1893). Oregon would eventually award its electoral votes to Hayes.
