[PUERTO RICO]. Gaecta de Puerto-Rico. San Juan, 1901-02. Nearly 500 issues of this daily newspaper. Bound into two large folio volumes. Each page approximately 460 x 320 mm. Brown cloth library bindings (worn, soiled, hinges cracked, text toned, torn, brittle, several loose pages). These years were important to the newly acquired United States territory: Puerto Rican citizens were first allowed to serve in the United States military, the United States devalued the Puerto Rican Peso causing much controversy, and the Official Languages Act made English the co-official language of the island (along with Spanish).
