STEINBERG, Saul (1914-1999). The New Yorker. 1976. The New Yorker Magazine, Inc. Color offset printed poster. 41 ¼ x 28 7/8”. Unbacked/rolled. A. WITH: the original mailing tube retaining mailing label.
“View of the World from 9th Avenue” is often regarded as the most famous of Steinberg’s 85 covers for The New Yorker, appearing on the March 29, 1976 issue, parodying New Yorkers’ narrow-minded view of the world beyond the Hudson. In 2005, the American Society of Magazine Editors voted it one of the 40 greatest magazine covers of the past 40 years.
