WILKES, Tom (1939 – 2009). Monterey International Pop Festival. June 16-17-18. San Francisco, 1967. Concert poster on silver foil paper. Smaller format, 21 ¼ x 12 3/8”. This festival was the first major American performance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience—during which Hendrix famously burned his guitar onstage. Other acts at this three-day festival which became synonymous with the Summer of Love included Otis Redding, The Who, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Ravi Shankar, and The Byrds. D.A. Pennebaker’s documentary Monterey Pop was released the following year and featured extensive footage from the concerts. Art of Rock (AOR) 3.5. Rare.
