[FURNITURE]. Empire Secretaire a Abattant. [France, ca. 1810]. An exquisite drop-leaf secretary desk of the First Empire. The finely crafted piece is in original condition including the leather desk top covering which is almost never found on pieces of this age. Also original are the green marble top and unusual master lock key featuring a clover leaf pattern design for both the key and several locks. The interior is quite elaborate for this type of desk with its small columns, fire gilt decor mounts and original backing mirror. Approximately 37 x 17 x 56 ½”. A superb feature are two secret drawer compartments for valuables and the hidden releases behind the columns. Some mild wear, a few cracks, apparent repairs/restoration on the back panel. Fine. A piece of furniture of this fine quality was surely afforded to only the highest class citizens of the Empire. A rarity. Third party shipping required.
