[FIGURINE]. Anti-Royal Political Figurine by Napoleon's Supporters. [France, ca. 1814-1815]. Unusual and charming two-piece brass figurine. Approximately 3” high when both pieces are together. Minor toning, else fine. This is a very rare political artifact reflecting the public mood during the first Restoration during Napoleon’s exile in Elba. He was still widely popular with many supporters when King Louis XVIII recovered the throne. This clever gilt figure features a rather bloated caricature of King Louis in uniform. Upon closer inspection, a lynch-pin can be withdrawn, allowing the upper torso of the monarch to be removed to reveal a miniature figure of Napoleon standing ‘In the wings!’. A comical and foretelling comment of the situation in France between April 1814 and March 1815. A very rare political figurine.
