[PAINTED MINIATURE]. [PRINCE EUGENE DE BEAUHARNAIS, (1781-1824), subject]. Rare Portrait Miniature of Prince Eugene, Napoleon’s Adopted Son in Uncommon Scrimshaw Frame. [Ca. 1800s]. Oval portrait of Prince Eugene in brass frame, inset in a beautiful bone scrimshaw frame. Sight approximately 3 ½ x 2 ½”. Frame size approximately 5 ½ x 4 ½”. Fine. The son of the Empress Josephine by a previous marriage, Eugene was adopted by Napoleon who adored the boy. He accompanied Napoleon to Egypt and remained at his side during many battles of the Empire and eventually became the Vice Roi of Italy. Eugene is wearing the Legion d’ Honeur suspended by a solid gold eagle necklace, worn only by the Grand Chamberlain. This is an exceptionally rare and fine portrait miniature.
