[BRITISH NAVY]. Royal Navy Officer’s Bicorn Chapeau with Original Carrying Case. [London: W. Cater & Co., ca. 1850]. This British Naval Officer’s bicorn chapeau (sometimes known as a “cocked hat”) and the original metal carrying case are in outstanding condition. Hat is black velvet with decorative black ribbons and gold officer’s fringes. The maker’s mark is on the silk lining of the hat and a brass plate on the case. Hat approximately 16 x 7 x 6”; case is approximately 18 ½ x 8 x 9” including handle. It would appear never to have been worn, as the condition of the hat and case are fine (hat has mild rubbing, case has some rust and a few bumps, but is otherwise fine).
