[DRAWER PULLS]. [NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. Group of Two Hand-Painted Drawer-Pulls with Portraits of Nelson plus One Depicting Britannia. [Battersea: Bilston, ca. 1800s]. Hand-painted miniatures of Nelson (“Adml. Ld. Nelson”) and Britannia in brass fittings. Sight of all painted miniatures approximately 1 ½” in diameter. With brass fittings - approximately 2” in diameter and approximately 3” long. Some rubbing to Nelson items, the Britannia is chipped at the center with cracks. Nelson pulls are fine, Britannia is fair. Extremely rare and a collector’s dream, these Bilston enamel “Pulls” were seen as a Patriotic addition to the home. Two are based on a contemporary portrait of Nelson by Daniel Orme, and the third, “Britannia on the Sea,” was a reflection of British Naval might (see The Nelson Companion, p. 90). Very rare and unusual.
