[SNUFF BOX]. [BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821), subject]. Napoleon Commemorative Bicorne “Victory” Box. Original brass box, hinged at the base with the lid featuring the Vandome (Victory) Column in the center and on either side an inscription that reads: “Napoleon Le Grand Cheri de la Victoire il sut par Son Genie Eternise sa Gloire.” Shaped to reflect Napoleon’s famous bicorne hat, the style reflects similar boxes dating from the First Empire, where the metal used was claimed to be from captured enemy cannons. Approximately 3 x 3 ¼ x ¾”. Minor occasional soiling, else fine. “Victory” boxes are quite rare.
