[SWORDS OR SABERS]. Sabre de Troupe des Marins. [France, ca. 1800s-1820s]. This very rare Marin Sabre is the model for the Troupe du Marins de la Garde, with the original wire bound leather grip, brass knucklebow, quillon and knob shaped pommel and handsome shield shaped longets with an anchor engraved on them. The backstrap is engraved “Mfre Imple du Klingenthal Couloux Frere ent.” The scabbard of black leather has three brass mounts with suspension rings. It measures 34 ½” from top of hilt to base of scabbard; the blade is 29”, with some surface pitting at the blade tip and small hairline stress marks in the upper portion, some cracking to leather portion of scabbard. Still, a fine example of this rare sabre.
