BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821). Secretarial Document Signed by Napoleon, Concerning the Egyptian Campaign. Cairo (“Caire”), “le 22 Meridor” (June 22, 1799). An important document dictated to and written out by Louis Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne (1769-1834), and signed by General Napoleon (“Bonaparte”) one week before his departure and return to France, an initiative that remains controversial although instrumental in rescuing France from the remains of Revolutionary maladministration. The document is on distinctive laid-paper letterhead: “Republique Française / Bonaparte, Général en Chef,”. Sight approximately 10 ? x 7 ½”. Matted and framed under glass. Frame size approximately 15 ¾ x 12 ?”. One vertical and one horizontal crease visible, some foxing. Fine. The text is in the hand of Bourrienne, a normal arrangement in official correspondence. The signature and letterhead are that of Napoleon with a strong signature in ink in the center. Egyptian campaign documents are amongst the rarest of Napoleon’s signed examples. Not examined out of frame.
