BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821). Lock of Napoleon’s Hair, Certified by His Secretary, Emmanuel de Las Cases (1766-1842). Longwood and Paris, 22 Juillet 1825 (July 22, 1825). Group of at least 7 hairs, contained in a small hand-made folded envelope with wax seal with the following note: “chevaux de Napoleon [?] par moi à longwood…” Signed by Las Cases. Hairs are various sizes around 1” or so. Envelope is approximately 3 ¼ x 2 ½” when folded. Two other hairs are in a small plastic envelope with an older printed catalog description “Napoleon Bonaparte - A lock of his hair given to by Sir Hudson Lowe (Governor of St. Helena and Custodian of Napoleon) to Mrs. Kingsley (wife of Rev. Charles Kingsley, author of “Westward Ho!”)”.
