With frontispiece portrait of author and engraved portrait of Napoleon inserted. 123, [1, blank], [8, publisher’s ads] pp. Bound in later nineteenth century half brown levant morocco over marbled boards, spine stamped in gilt in compartments, two raised bands, top edge stained yellow (spine sunned and worn, some edgewear to binding, hinges starting, some foxing, occasional soiling to text, previous owner’s gift inscription and embossed ownership stamp on ffep). Very good. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, UNCOMMON WITH FRONTISPIECE AND INSERTED PLATE. Cockburn was a highly-decorated British naval officer; this is his memoir of transporting Napoleon to his exile at St. Helena.
