[HOBHOUSE, John Cam (1786-1869)]. The Substance of Some Letters, written by an Englishman Resident at Paris During the Last Reign of the Emperor Napoleon… London: Ridgways, 1816. 8vos. Two volumes. Bound in contemporary full tan calf, boards triple-ruled in gilt, spines with red and brown gilt morocco lettering labels. Rebacked, preserving the original spines, some wear, browning to spine and boards, later endleaves, some foxing, soiling to text. With a previous owner’s (most likely 20th century) pencil notes on the front blanks of each volume. Very good. FIRST EDITION OF THIS CONTROVERSIAL PRO-NAPOLEON TITLE.
