SHERMAN, William Tecumseh (1820-1891). Secretarial Autograph Letter Signed by Sherman. 75 W 71 St. New York Dec. 17, 1888. Addressed “T. A. Sawyer Esq. Keokuk Ia.” One 4to page on bifolium of white ruled paper. Approximately 10 ½ x 8”. Mildly toned, with occasional faint soiling, two horizontal creases. Fine. The following letter is in an unknown secretarial hand, but is signed by Sherman at the bottom: “My dear Sir: your very courteous and sympathetic letter of the 14th last [?] has just come to hand and I beg you be assured of my profound appreciation of such sentiments coming as they do from one of my old Soldier boys. I will always be glad to welcome you should you find time while in the City to call at my home at the above No., and in the meantime will subscribe myself Very sincerely yours W. T. Sherman General [“General” in secretarial hand].
