[AFRICAN AMERICANA]. Group of Nearly 70 Postcards, Most with Racist Imagery. [V.p., ca. 1900s-1960s]. Mainly color postcards. Most with written addresses, messages, stamps or cancels. Most have illustrated artwork, some have photographic images (no RPPCs). Sizes generally 3 ½ x 5 ½”. Very good (general wear, soiling, rubbing). Some of the images displayed are startlingly disturbing, including a drawing of a lynching victim with the caption “I have got to hang around here awhile,” a tinted image of an electric chair “Execution Chamber, Auburn, N. Y.” (no direct link to African Americans), a color image of a stork carrying two African American infants with the caption “No Race Suicide,” and more.
