[SLAVERY DOCUMENT]. Manuscript Will Addendum Draft Appointing John Cromartie as an Overseer on a Slave Plantation. Leon County, Florida, December 30, 1852. One and ? 4to page (recto and verso) on one light blue laid-paper leaf. Approximately 10 x 8”. Embossed stamp on upper left corner. Two horizontal creases, some edgewear, a few short tears or soiling, mainly at margins or creases. It is unclear who wrote this manuscript. Near fine. “We the undersigned heirs and distributees of the Estate of Daniel O’Cain late of Leon County Florida, do hereby authorize and empower John Cromartie administrator of said Estate to keep and work the hands of said Estate together on the plantation recently acquired by the said Daniel O’Cain until the same shall be distributed among the heirs of said Estate, and also to Keep such provender, horses, mules, farming utensils &c, as may be required to work said place and also to purchase from time to time as necessity may require such articles of food clothing or other articles as he may think necessary to carry on the plantation, and to account to the Court of Probates for the crops which he may make, instead of the rents of the lands and hire of the negroes. We also bind ourselves to protect the said cromartie against any and all loss which he as administrator of said Estate may may incur by reason of not hireing [sic] out the negroes & renting the lands of said Estate.
