Image appeared as Plate 320 in Curtis’ Portfolio 9, “The North American Indian, Vol. 9. Salishan tribes of the coast. The Chimakum and The Quilliute. The Willapa.” Image: 15 3/8 x 12”; frame 27 x 23”. Small crease lower left corner. Minor rubbing. Very minimal evidence of conservation. Image is in excellent/very good condition; bright and crisp with deep tones. Curtis’ caption for this image in Volume 9: “The Lummi held considerable territory in the vicinity of Lummi bay, Washington, as well as many of the San Juan islands.” Platinum prints constitute less than half of one percent of extant Curtis prints. All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
