Original Curtis Studio copyright sticker verso. Image appeared as Plate 80 in Curtis’ Portfolio 3, “The North American Indian, Vol.3. The Teton Sioux. The Yanktonai. The Assiniboin.” Image 9 ¼ x 12 ¼”; paper: 15 x 18”. Some shining around the perimeter, lower half and lower edge. Lower left corner of sheet not attached to backing paper. Backing paper has some staining in margins. Image is crisp and bright and presents very well. Curtis identifies the subject of the image in Volume 3: “This picture was made in the heart of the Bad Lands of South Dakota. The subject is the sub-chief Red Hawk, a sketch of whose life is given on page 188 of Volume III.” All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
