Copyrighted in negative, lower left, “Curtis / 855 / Copyrighted 1898.” Image appeared as facing page 30 in Curtis’ “The North American Indian, Vol. 9. Salishan tribes of the coast. The Chimakum and the Quilliute. The Willapa.” Sight: 5 ¼ x 7 ½”; frame 15 x 18”. Surface scratch upper right, scattered surface abrasions, minor handling marks along perimeter. Matted; examined partially out of frame. Gold-toned printing-out prints are some of Curtis’ earliest prints and considered to be rare. All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
