Curtis / Seattle. Image appeared as Plate 20 in Portfolio 1, “The North American Indian, Vol. 1. The Apache. The Jicarillas. The Navaho.” Image 16 x 8 ¾”. Edges and corners worn. Upper left corner loss. Crease in top quadrant of the image. Tiny dots of emulsion loss. Various visual indication recto of original adhesive remnants verso at perimeter edges. Colors are bright. This version of the image was made through one of several experimental processes Curtis employed over the years. Hand-coloring was done using either oil-based and watercolor paint, or a gum process with ink. All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
