Beautifully bound by Truslove & Hanson in full vellum over boards, boards double-ruled in gilt, spines decoratively tooled in gilt with floral design and with brown gilt morocco lettering labels, gilt turn-ins, marbled endleaves, top edges gilt (some rubbing, soiling to bindings, boards bowed outward a bit, some foxing to front and rear blanks. Near fine. FIRST EDITION; GERTRUDE JEKYLL’S COPY WITH A GIFT INSCRIPTION TO HER ON THE SECOND BLANK OF VOLUME I: “Gertrude Jekyll from E. F L- Christmas 1906. [flourish]”. Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1942) was an important landscape architect and artist. Although she was most famous for her design of gardens, she engaged in many artistic projects, including an embroidered quilt for Edward Burne-Jones.
