Bound in modern marbled paper boards, printed paper label on spine (light rubbing to binding, text toned, soiled, with occasional foxing). Very good. FIRST EDITION, OF THE FIRST VOLUME OF THIS UNUSUAL BOOK WHICH ATTEMPTS TO RECONCILE SCIENCE AND RELIGION. Burnet postulated that the Earth was created as a perfect sphere, but was altered over time due to various forces, including the Noah’s Ark flood. Burnet also suggested a Hollow Earth and estimated the volume of water on the planet. This book was admired by Sir Isaac Newton (Newton had written to Burnet, suggesting that when God created the Earth, the days were longer - Burnet rejected this as having no scientific basis).
