Morier, perhaps best known as the author of The Adventures of Haji Baba (1824), was a diplomat who spent most of his life in the Middle East. He was private secretary to Sir Harford Jones, the British Ambassador to the Shah; Morier was present at the negotiations of the infamous treaty of 1812 in Tehran between Britain and Persia.
