With 25 black and white intertextual illustrations. 194 pp. Publisher’s full green cloth, front board decoratively stamped in gilt, rear board ruled in blind, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt (some rubbing to edges of binding, endleaves and edge of text block foxed). A bright, fine copy, better than usually seen. Bookplates of Marshall Laird and J. D. Kyd (signed by him) on the fp. FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 500 PRINTED COPIES. This treatise on falconry was originally written in 1868 in Tehran, from which this edition is made. Phillott, was a distinguished officer in the Indian Army, as well as a scholar and linguist. He was proficient in Persian and Arabic, and he wrote 2 Persian grammars and contributed many articles to the Journal of The Asiatic Society of Bengal. He also served as Consul in Persia for 2 years, and was a lecturer in Hindustani at Cambridge. Zimmer, p. 623.
