[JAMESON, John W. (1882-1939), artist and engraver]. A Collection of Sixty Bookplates Designed by John W. Jameson. [N.p., ca. 1930s]. Sixty bookplates mounted onto stiff leaves in a scrapbook. Many bookplates signed by Jameson in pencil. Sizes range from approximately 3 ½ x 2 ¾ x 6 x 4 ¾”. Spiral-bound scrapbook in full brown cloth, black gilt morocco lettering label on front, typed captions affixed to fp (scrapbook with some minor rubbing, soiling, bookplates have some occasional toning, one bookplate has two small areas of tape residue bleeding through from the verso to the recto.) Fine. From one of the typed caption sheets: “John William Jameson, etcher and engraver, was born in Chicago, March 25, 1882. Most of his formal art education was acquired by his study at night school and working as an apprentice… Since 1930 his bookplates include work in cut, steel engraving, zinc process plate, and many copper engravings and etchings. His pictorial plates have a certain beauty and gracefulness and he attained a a [sic] high degree of skill in this field…”
