[MAPS]. [BRAUN, Georg (1541-1622) and HOGENBERG, Frans (1535-1590), printers]. Cairus Quae Olim Babylon Aegypti Maxima Urbs. [Cologne: G. Braun, ca. 1572-1617]. Hand-colored copper-engraving of a bird’s-eye view of Cairo and the surrounding countryside, including depictions of the Sphinx and the pyramids. Several people are in the foreground including cavalry engaged in exercises, travelers, women in veils, and a man picking dates. One can see boats and crocodiles in the Nile. Approximately 13 x 19”. Some toning, foxing, corners creased, one central vertical crease (with early paper reinforcement on verso, with the Latin text, “Cairus” on verso). Very good. From Braun and Hogenberg’s Civitates Orbis Terrarum.
