[MOVIE PROP]. Prop “Log Book” Used in the Trailer for the 1962 Film, “Mutiny on the Bounty.” [Hollywood:] Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1962. Oblong folio. Approximately 12 ¼ x 16 ½”. Bound to style in modern half blue morocco over marbled boards, blue morocco lettering label on front board (“Log”), marbled endleaves, the first three leaves with calligraphy which would appear at the beginning of the film’s trailer (“The Greatest Adventure Ever Lived…” “Becomes the Greatest Adventure Ever Filmed!” “Mutiny on the Bounty…” Minor rubbing, else fine. This impressive prop was designed by art director Joseph McMillan (“Mac”) Johnson (1912-1990) for the trailer for the film. Johnson was one of the leading artists and art directors of his day, beginning his career on Gone with the Wind (as a sketch artist), Wizard of Oz (special effects), Portrait of Jennie (special effects, for which he won an Academy Award), and more. He also worked frequently with Alfred Hitchcock (working on To Catch a Thief and Rear Window, among others). Accompanied by a typed letter signed by his son affirming the authenticity of this book. The 1962 version of Mutiny on the Bounty was directed by Lewis Milestone and Carol Reed, and starred Marlon Brando and Trevor Howard.
