Bound in near contemporary half red morocco over marbled boards, spines stamped and lettered in gilt in compartments, black morocco floral onlays, top edges gilt, marbled endleaves (binding worn, rear board of volume I scuffed, soiled, spine toned, hinges starting, text a bit toned with some occasional faint soiling). Very good. FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE ACCOUNT OF NATIVE AMERICANS IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION. “Mr. Colton seems to have been imbued with the laudable design of affording such information regarding the Indians he visited, as would not only excite the interest of this readers in his narration of incidents, but would arouse the sympathy of the humane to their wretched condition.
