A near fine copy in a fair dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS TEACHER ON THE FFEP: “For Prof. James R. Hopkins from his pupil who has long appreciated the help and interest which you have shown to me on many an art problem, all of which makes for whatever result this book achieves Sincerely, Frederick Machetanz Sept. 30. 1940 Kenton. O.” Laid-in are 7 postcards of Machetanz’ artwork, two of which are addressed to Prof. Hopkins (with stamps and cancels). James Roy Hopkins (1877-1969) was an artist and professor, known for his evocative portraits of people of the American Heartland.
