As for your question, I think that the problem, at least so far as it concerns the White House days, is greatly exaggerated. LATER PRINTING, INSCRIBED BY SCHLESINGER ON THE FFEP TO JONATHAN MANN. The letter is of particular interest: A Thousand Days (1965), Schlesinger’s record of his life and work in John F. Kennedy’s White House as Kennedy’s Special Assistant. It is still considered to be the definitive first-hand account of the Kennedy White House. This letter seems to be an attempt to refute the various rumors of impropriety in the White House under Kennedy.
