[iv], [1]-313, [3, blank] pp. Publisher’s full black cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt, publisher’s unclipped (“Net, $2.00”) dust jacket with “Book of the Month Club” sticker on front jacket panel as issued (cloth binding soiled, with some rubbing and edgewear to spine and corners, mild offsetting to endleaves, text lightly toned with occasional soiling, creasing, jacket spine sunned and quite chipped, jacket panels chipped, worn, creased, some soiling, one small area of tape residue on verso). Good. FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST NERO WOLFE NOVEL. Housed in modern beige buckram clamshell box. Howard Haycraft (1905-1991) listed this novel as one of the most influential mystery novels.
