Sizes range from approximately 4 ½ x 9” to 3 ¼ x 13”. Documents with general creasing, soiling. Generally good or better. Documents include: View of frankpledge and court of King Edward VI in the first year of his reign; view of frankpledge under Elizabeth I; view of frankpledge also under Elizabeth I; court baron of Francis Drake (a farmer) and his wife, Joan deed; view of frankpledge and court baron of the aforementioned Drake; court baron of Walter Plummer. Frankpledges were agreements during the latter Middle Ages in which several people or entities shared responsibility for tithings. Court baron was a local noble magistrate who settled disputes among his tenants.
