MIFFLIN, Thomas (1744-1800). Land Indenture Document Signed by Founding Father Mifflin. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 2 June 1797. Partially printed document on vellum, land given to Samuel Hodgdon from Minerva Bradley. Signed by Mifflin at left margin under the paper seal, two paper seals on verso, and countersigned by James Trimble at lower left. Approximately 11 x 20 ½”. 2 vertical and 3 horizontal creases (toned, some wear, soiling and foxing). Very good. Mifflin served in the Continental Congress, but left to serve in the Continental Army when the Revolution began. He became the first Quartermaster General, but later left this position and rejoined the regular army, eventually rising to the rank of Major General. After the war, he became the President of the Continental Congress for a brief time; later he became a delegate to the Constitutional Convention from Pennsylvania. He was the last President of Pennsylvania and the first Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
