[REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. Revolutionary War Pay Receipt for a Gun and Bayonet for Soldier Asa Kinne. [Connecticut: Dec. the 16 Day 1782]. Manuscript slip on laid paper. Signed with an “X” over the name of the three “Select Men Preston” at the right side. Approximately 2 ¾ x 7 ½”. 1 vertical and 1 horizontal creases, edgewear, soiling, toning. Very good. Rare. “Mr. Ephraim Hennek [?] Treasurer for this Twon Sir Pleas [sic] to Pay Capt Asa Kinne Two Pounds Two Shillings in Silver Money out of the Towns money it Being For a Gun and Baonet [sic] shew [?] for there [?] of the State Soldeer [sic] in the year 1781 Dated Preston Dec the 16 Day 1782 / Elias Brown Whales [?] Coit Amos Cleft - Select Men Preston” Asa Kinne enlisted on July 10, 1775 in Captain Jewett’s company (the 8th company of the 8th Regiment commanded by Col. Jedidiah Huntington.) This unit was sent to the Boston area during the siege of Boston, its post being under General Spencer’s command. Kinne was discharged on December 3. Then, Kinne’s service was in the Rhode Island area in the Connecticut militia under General Spencer from February, 1776 until April, 1777.
