SMITH, Alfred E. (1873-1944). Pair of Inscribed Press Photographs of Smith, One with Smith and Sir Winston S. Churchill. [N.p., ca. 1920s-1930s]. Black and white photographs of Smith, one a portrait of him facing forward, the other one showing Smith demonstrating something to Sir Winston S. Churchill (1874-1965). Both inscribed by Smith: one is inscribed “To Excelsior [?] Club best wishes Alfred E Smith” at the upper left corner; the other (with Churchill) is inscribed at bottom: “To Dr Jno J Jaffin with affectionate regard of Alfred E Smith”. Approximately 10 x 8” and 9 ½ x 7 ½”. One photo is toned with some sticker residue on verso, the other photo (with Churchill) is soiled, toned, rear is soiled with a faint press inkstamp. Good to Near fine. Smith was a four-term governor of New York, and was the Democratic nominee for president in 1928. Smith and Churchill were longtime friends.
