[CIRCUS]. Cooke’s Historic and Magnificent Tournament. [England], 1840. One-color pictorial broadside advertising a show by members of the famed British equestrian circus family, bearing a central wood-engraved image of performers in suits of armor jousting on costumed horses. In addition to the elaborate exhibitions of horsemanship, other acts on the bill included a clown, a contortionist, actors, and acrobats. Some of the Cooke family members present for this appearance were Thomas Jr. (1782 - 1866), William (b. 1808), James (1810 - 1869), Henry, Alfred, and a very young Tom (b. 1835). 22 x 8 ¼”.
