Bates (Martin Van Buren Bates 1837 – 1919, and Anna Haining Swan 1846 – 1888), known as the Kentucky giant; — Small two-color pictorial handbill advertising a performance by the “Giant Amazon Queen” (Marian Holland, b. 1866), starring in the operetta Babil and Bijou at the Alhambra Theatre in London [1882]; — Letterpress broadside in black ink on yellow stock advertising music hall shows featuring Pat O’Brien (Patrick William Parsons, b. 1853) the “great Irish giant and his wife, the renowned German giantess,” (Christiana Dorothea Dunz, b. 1862), “direct from Barnum’s American Circus.” London: Pewtress & Co., 1886. — Newspaper clipping, in Dutch, with portrait photograph of Russian “giant” Elizabeth Lyska (b. 1877), hand dated 1889, laid down; — French newspaper supplement featuring article and large color lithographed illustration titled “Mariage De Géant” (July 4, 1897); — Postcard depicting Mr. and Mrs. Van Droysen (William Van Droysen, and Dora Herms), “Giant dutsch Couple.
