“Man in Beaver Coat” Marshall Field’s Animatronic Christmas Window Display Figure. Chicago: Marshall Field’s, 1982. Large painted plaster figure (“Walnut Room; Figure IX”) of a Victorian-era man in black shoes, navy trousers, full-length beaver coat, brown gloves, polka-dot ascot, black hat, monocle with chain, holding a large lined cape. On wooden base with motor and plug. 41 ½” high. Some wear, motor works, but figure does not currently move. Fine. From the collection of the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago. This, and the other Marshall Field's Christmas Window display lots were created by Virginia Paxson in collaboration with the legendary New York design/fabrication firm, Spaeth Design.
