A 1950s Piggly Wiggly Promotional Costume with Crate. A full Piggly Wiggly character costume used for special event personal appearances in the 1950s. When a new Piggly Wiggly store would open across the South, it was often celebrated complete with high school bands, a dedication speech from the local mayor or city council and a visit from Piggly Wiggly himself. This Piggly Wiggly was owned and worn at event openings by a small-statured mother of four. The costume was stored at the family home of this actor during the period she wore it and for decades after her passing. This is the first time this has been on the open market. The set comes with the fiberglass head and shoulder mount, the full clothing ensemble including the original shirt, hat, gloves, bandana, overalls and oversized strap on shoes. There is some original foam filling to fill out the robustly sized clothing. In a heavily padded wood shipping crate that was forwarded to each of the new opening events. The overall condition is excellent with only some repaired damage to the top of the fiberglass head. That has been filled in with resin but is easily repainted to match the rest of the head. Pig Head: 30 x 22”; crate: 29 x 32 x 43”.
