[WORLD WAR I]. War Photography Archive and Uniform of Sgt. George F. Allard. 1910s. Collection of World War I photographs and memorabilia belonging to U.S. Army Sgt. Allard of the 13th Photo Section, American Expanded Forces, 2nd Army. With his wool military uniform of tunic, pants, belt, and hat. With several hundred photograph positives and negatives, many annotated versos, including: aerial observation photos with squadron number of the aircraft taking the photo, negative number, sector name, date, time, and altitude. Circa 1918. Featuring squadrons 8th, 85th, 90th, and 135th. – Several modern photo albums filled with original 1917-1919 photographs of WWI destruction to villages, war dead, soldiers in uniform, and tourist images. – Hand and typewritten photo inventory sheets listing negative numbers, camera types, and descriptions of post-WWI destruction. With a copy of General John Pershing’s 1919 General Orders No. 38, a letter to demobilize AEF troops. – 15 Assorted military collar discs. – Together with several books including: “A History of the Second Army Air Service.” Toul, France: Headquarters, Air Service, Second Army, 1919. Inscribed by Allard on front free endpaper, original cloth. – MOSS, Colonel Jas. A. “Non-commissioned Officer’s Handbook.” Menasha: George Banta Publishing Co., 1917. With Allard’s notes and signature on the inside covers and a few folded maps inside. – “Legion Airs: Songs of Over There and Over Here.” New York: Leo Feist Inc., 1932. American Legion songbook. – “Symbolic Tribute for Ohio Dead.” Columbus: The Edward E. Fisher Company, 1921. – Photographs range in size from 1 ½ x 2 ½” to 7 x 9”. Conditions vary. Some toning to paper and minor edgewear.
