RAINEY, William (1852 – 1936). The Fortune of Duitsia & Jacob. Original pen and ink on paper depicts a wizard in his workshop with the traditional trappings of his trade in the background and a taxidermy alligator hanging overhead, with a black cat crouched before him and two young onlookers at the right. From Cassell’s Family Magazine, December 1895, where it accompanied a story by A.E. Bonser. Matted; sight 6 ¾ x 5 3/8”. SIGNED by the artist in the lower right.
