[STAGE MONEY] Collection of Imitation Bills, Stage Money, and Related Magic Ephemera. Primarily English and American, 1910s – 2000s. A large collection of over 200 pieces of imitation greenbacks, British pounds, and other ersatz paper currency used by magicians as souvenirs, or for various magic effects. Including a folder filled with the examples collected by Stanley Collins, and his handwritten list of same, as well as over 100 examples collected by Edwin Dawes. Magicians represented include Chung Ling Soo (an imitation advertising note by Dunville & Co. used for his Dream of Wealth illusion, with Collins inked notation on the bill attesting to this), Dell O’Dell, Zina Bennett, Bert Allerton, Edwin Dawes (a quantity), John Giordmaine, Fantasma, Willane, Micky Hades, Al Flosso, Hornmann’s Magic Shop, Gentleman Jack, Tommy Windsor, Eperny, Abbott’s Magic Co., Magical Digest, Lewis Davenport & Co., Paul Zenon, Phil Thomas, George Jason, Town House Magic, and many others. Some duplication. Several gimmicked bills also included for visibly enlarging bills, torn and restored effects, etc. The largest 7 ½ x 18”, but the majority of standard size. Also included is a box of Ricky Jay’s $100 Sweets along with genuine shredded US currency, distributed as part of his off-Broadway show, On the Stem. A very good group of these ephemeral items.
