[WITCH] Mother Damnable of Kentish Town. [London]: J. Caulfield, 1793. Fine pictorial engraving bearing a portrait of presumed London witch “Mother Damnable,” dressed in torn clothing and kneeling next to a hearth, one hand lifting a crutch, behind her on the floor is an overturned vessel near a pipe and some leaves, another vessel which is broken sits atop a small table, and on the wall is a depiction of a coat of arms with the image of two cats hanging up-side down by their tails. Likely from Caulfield’s Portraits, Memoirs and Characters of Remarkable Persons (ca. 1790s). Glazed, 9 ½ x 6”. Possibly laid down. Foxing and toning.
