Vanishing Casket. European, ca. 1880. Oblong metal box with three doors and ball feet painted in red, silver, and black, with chains affixed to the top. The magician places a live dove (or any other suitable article) inside the box which is suspended above the stage. At the shot from his pistol the front and rear doors drop open revealing the animal has disappeared. Length 10 ½”. Paint chipped, internal mechanism working well. Early and handsome example.
