CAVENDISH (pseud. Henry Jones). Second Sight for Amateurs. [London]: Horace Cox, 346, Strand, W.C., 1888. One of only 25 copies printed “for private circulation.” Full green cloth ruled blind. Black/brown endsheets. 99pp., rectos only, including introductory material on Second Sight and descriptions of various “cues” used in these apparent acts of mindreading. 4to. Bookplates of J.B. Findlay and Edwin Dawes. Trifling rubbing, page edges foxed, binding a bit shaken, but very good overall. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED by the author on the flyleaf verso using his real name, Henry Jones. RARE.

This is one of four rare works gifted to Dr. Dawes from the famed Findlay sale (Part 1), held at Sotheby’s in 1979, where it was offered as lot 368. For a further discussion of this unusual turn of events resulting in additions of several rarities to the Dawes collection, see “A Rich Cabinet of Magical Curiosities” No. 314, and our previous catalog of the Dawes collection.
