STEINBERG, Saul (1914–1999). The New Yorker. 1976. The New Yorker Magazine, Inc. Color offset printed poster. 41 ¼ x 28 7/8”. Linen backed. Marginal retouching; minor scuffing to the top. A-.“View of the World from 9th Avenue” is regarded as the most famous of Steinberg’s 85 covers for The New Yorker, appearing in the March 29, 1976, issue, parodying New Yorkers’ narrow-minded view of the world beyond the Hudson. In 2005, the American Society of Magazine Editors voted it one of the 40 greatest covers of the past 40 years.
