[CHERET, Jules (1836-1932)]. MAINDRON, Ernest. Les Affiches Illustrees. Collection of 30 lithograph plates. Paris: Librairie Artistique, 1896. This group of 30 chromolithographed miniature Cheret posters was extracted from Ernest Maindron’s history of the poster Les Affiches Illustrees Part II. When he first wrote Les Affiches Illustrées, a history of the poster based on the 10,000 examples in his possession, he asked Cheret to use reductions by the Imprimerie Chaix of twenty of his best-known poster designs as colored illustrations. Ten years later Maindron published his far more significant sequel, Les Affiches Illustrées (1886-1895), which surveys the subsequent history of the poster, this time with seventy-two color plates by the Imprimerie Chaix, the majority after Cheret. This work was highly influential in the development and publication of miniaturized lithographed poster art. Dimensions of each plate 9” x 12 ¼”. Each mounted on a custom cut mat. Not removed from mats but appear to be in excellent condition.
